World acclaimed petroleum engineer and prolific academic, Dr James Ohioma Arukhe has concluded plans to establish the Petroleum and Chemical Engineering Educational Society (PCEES), in order to promote, to an unprecedented level, the principles of research and development in the teaching and practice of petroleum and chemical engineering. Although primary focus is in Africa, particularly, Nigeria, James envisions a global spread of the vision within a relatively short timeframe given the importance and criticality of petroleum as a major contributor to world energy. In the meantime, James has set out to use PCEES to rally international support for a number of African Universities that have Petroleum and Chemical Engineering Departments. James believes that senior professionals and leaders owe fiduciary duty of compassion and care for present day scholars. By so doing, such senior colleagues make noteworthy investments in leaders of the future.
Dr Arukhe has engaged the services of T & T Forthright, a firm of development consultants in Nigeria, to work out the institutional and developmental modalities with the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Education and the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology to ensure the smooth intervention of the PCEES initiative in Nigeria. PCEES in the immediate will give to select African Universities, including the University of Benin, such support as provision of textbooks, online journals and subscriptions to academic research materials.
These preliminary interventions will form the pilot stage by which PCEES will map out its extension strategy to other African universities. Special attention will be given to the area of research assistance to these universities.
James Arukhe, who has been so blessed, plans to reach out with 2-10% of a 600 Million Naira Endowment fund requirement, working with several higher learning institutions to give back and pave the pathway of academic excellence and affect the next generation’s opportunity structure. Donors willing to collaborate will ensure success of the PCEES vision and contribute their quota to help leapfrog inequality and improve the access to, quality and relevance of the petroleum and chemical engineering education system. Kindly contribute to help establish the PCEES fund. Thanks to everyone who has donated. The more we raise, the more intervention we can do together.
